Our story

An unexpected chapter.

I run Enhanced Interiors, a kitchen and bathroom showroom in Rutherglen, Glasgow. But after recently discovering a passion for writing and preparing to self-publish my first novel, Between Two Countries, I found myself falling in love with the world of books.

That's when an idea struck me. Why not create a little space in my showroom where other independent, self-published authors could see their books displayed, discovered and enjoyed?

And so The Little Shelf was born, celebrating independent voices based in or connected to Scotland and Ireland. Two countries. Countless stories. One little shelf. It's not a traditional bookshop: it's a cosy corner of my existing business, with white and oak shelves dedicated to giving independent writers a place to shine.

A small space for big stories. And hopefully, the beginning of something special.

Calling independent writers

Your book deserves shelf space.

We're exclusively for independent, self-published authors based in or connected to Scotland or Ireland who would like their books stocked in a real, physical bookshop. We're starting small, with a simple sale-or-return approach.

01 / INTRODUCE YOUR BOOK

Tell us your story.

Send us details of your book and a little about yourself. We review submissions for suitability; shelf space is limited and acceptance is at our discretion.

02 / SALE OR RETURN

Keep it simple.

Our proposed commission is 25% of the selling price for copies sold. The author receives the remaining amount, less applicable card-processing fees.

03 / BE DISCOVERED

Find new readers.

Accepted books are displayed in our shop and can be featured in our growing online book list and author promotions.

How to submit your book

Online submissions: We accept Microsoft Word documents only (.doc or .docx) for manuscript material submitted remotely. Please include a short synopsis, your book details and a little about the author. Email your submission to submissions@thelittleshelf.co.uk.

In person: You’re welcome to bring a physical copy of your book to the shop for consideration once we open. Please contact us before visiting to arrange a suitable time.

Our review process: Every book is vetted for suitability, but we may assess the synopsis, selected pages and other information rather than reading the entire book. Submission does not guarantee acceptance or shelf space.

A few important details: Authors cover any applicable postage for delivering books to the shop. We reserve the right to remove or return stock at any time; authors who would like unsold copies posted back cover return postage. All terms, including payment arrangements and fees, will be confirmed in writing before stock is accepted.
